“Michael” the movie easily moonwalked to the top of the box office on its opening weekend. Defying expectations and criticism about the storyline, the biopic of the “King of Pop” hauled in $97 million at the domestic box office and a total of $218 million worldwide. The movie scored the biggest opening ever for a biopic and shows it will be dancing in theaters for many weeks to come.
The film about the music legend focuses on the early years, before the controversies and sexual allegations. The huge opening has sparked speculation that there might be a sequel, which could include some of the bumps and negative elements in the entertainer’s career. The rest of the domestic box office results has animated adventure comedy, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie”, making $20.5 million, followed by sci-fi “Project Hail Mary” in third with $12.8 million, horror flick “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” landed in fourth with $5.5 million, and rounding out the top five, “The Drama” wedding film with $2.6 million.
