Midair Collision Fears—

Alaska Airlines jet takes off from Hollywood Burbank Airport at dusk, May 3, 2022
The Hollywood Burbank Airport is responding today to alarming comments from a government safety official. Yesterday, NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy warned that Southland airport is at risk for a deadly midair collision. “Commercial airlines have called me to say the next midair is going to be at Burbank, and nobody at the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) is paying attention to us,” Homendy said during remarks following a congressional hearing in Washington, DC.
The hearing is part of the NTSB’s investigation into the fatal midair collision near the nation’s capital in January of 2025. That deadly crash involving a US Army helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet killed 67 people. The main concerns are the crowded and congested Burbank airspace and the nearby Van Nuys Airport, which is also very busy.
Today, Hollywood Burbank Airport released the following statement on the concerns.
