The studios released those important final weekend numbers today. The much talked about Ridley Scott directed “Robin Hood” made some money on its debut weekend, however, not nearly enough to boot “Iron Man 2” from the number one spot. “Robin Hood” landed in second place with $36 million at the domestic Box Office. Worldwide, the film has raked in $110 million so far.
This is the latest film version of the English legend of a heroic outlaw/thief/skilled marksman who rights wrongs, and was known to rob from the rich to give to the poor. Russell Crowe stars as Robin and Cate Blanchett as Lady Marion.
For a second week “Iron Man 2” held onto first place, with a weekend tally of $53 million. The comic-book inspired sci-fi thriller has earned $211 million at the domestic Box Office.
In third, “Letters to Juliet,” which debuted lower than expected at $13.5 million. Amanda Seyfried stars in this romantic drama about an American woman in Italy who finds an old love letter and that sparks an unusual journey of discovery. The cast includes Chris Evans and Vanessa Redgrave, too.
“Just Wright” dribbled into fourth place with $8.2 million — which was right on target for this modestly budgeted romantic comedy starring Queen Latifah and that hunky Rapper/Hip-Hop Artist/Actor, Common. This rom com is about a physical therapist who falls for a pro-basketball player she’s helping recover from an injury. “Just Wright” played on the least number of screens of the top five films — 1,831.
In fifth, the animated family flick, “How to Train Your Dragon” with $5 million — bringing its 8 week domestic haul to around $208 million.
