“The Devil Wears Prada 2” showed it has style and staying power by finishing first for the second straight week at the box office. The high-stepping comedy-drama continued to earn big bucks to the tune of $42 million domestically over Mother’s Day weekend. The video-game sequel “Mortal Kombat II” opened with a lot of buzz, but could not win the battle for the top spot and had to settle for second place. The movie debuted with $38.5 million.
In third, a strong showing by the Michael Jackson blockbuster, “Michael’, with a haul of around $38 million. In less than three weeks, The biopic has thrilled audiences and raked in $242 million domestically. Worldwide, the flim has passed the half-a-billion dollar mark with a total $581 million. Rounding out the top five, two new films; the family-friendly whodunit,”The Sheep Detectives” brought in $15 million to take fourth, and a concert film by a popular singer-songwriter, “Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft—The Tour” followed with $7 million.
