As expected, Charter announced its deal to buy Time Warner Cable today. In a news released posted on the Charter website, the company says the deal is valued at $78.7 billion. This could be good news for many local Dodger fans who have been unable to watch home games due to a special arrangement the team made with Time Warner Cable. Included in the announcement today, Charter’s plans to purchase of the country’s 6th largest Internet provider, Bright House Networks, too.
“Put simply, the scale of New Charter, along with the combined talents we can bring to bear, position us to deliver a communications future that will unleash the full power of the two-way, interactive cable network,” Tom Rutledge, President and CEO of Charter Communications, said in a news release. Laker superstar, Kobe Byrant, is making plans for another career. The Hollywood Reporter, in an exclusive report, says Bryant has signed with one of the top Hollywood agencies, WME, for representation. Meanwhile, the Laker management is struggling to revive the franchise. General manager, Mitch Kupchak, says the Lakers “don’t have time” to rebuild through the draft.
