“Prince of Bel-Air” actor James Avery died last month, on New Year’s Eve. Avery reportedly passed away in a nearby Glendale hospital, following open heart surgery. He was only 68.
Avery appeared in a number of movies and TV shows, but is best known for playing the stern, but loving Uncle Phil to Will Smith’s leading role character in the sitcom”The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
On his Facebook page yesterday, Smith posted some touching words about Avery: “Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace.” See Smith’s complete message and a recent photo of “Fresh Prince” cast members here.
