A grand-slamming day at Wimbledon for home girls Serena & Venus

Serena and Venus plot strategy during the women’s doubles competition at Wimbledon.

Born in South Los Angeles, the two youngest Williams sisters were introduced to tennis at an early age by their father. At one point, the young girls would regularly practice on a court at a park plagued by gang activity in Compton. That was many years ago. The sisters have come along way since those days.

Today, Venus won her fifth Wimbledon singles title over sister, Serena, 7-5, 6-4.
Happy about her win, however, Venus reportedly toned down her celebration in respect for her sister’s feelings.

Later, Venus and Serena joined forces to win the women’s doubles championship 6-2,
6-2 over Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur. This time they celebrated together.

Oh, by the way Venus was so on her game she broke her Wimbledon record for powerful serve — with one clocked at 129 miles per hour.

It was definitely a good day for the Williams sisters. They won a truck load of Benjamins — more than 2.5 million dollars. Nice family payday, indeed!
