More strong winds in Burbank

It’s sunny and windy in the Media City today. In fact, there’s a wind advisory for the entire Southland in effect until 2 p.m. tomorrow. That advisory says ” gusty and potentially damaging Santa Ana winds expected today and Friday.” Winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are whipping through So Cal this morning. The winds could get even stronger before […]

New York City prepares for the wrath of Irene

In an unprecedented move, New York City has nearly shut down in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Irene today. Despite the dire warnings and evidence of what Irene has done to other parts of the East Coast this weekend, some New Yorkers in places like Coney Island are refusing to leave their homes. At least nine deaths on the East Coast are […]

Weather mix: Sun, clouds, wind, and maybe more rain

We’re getting sunshine and some gusty winds, along with those cloudy skies, here in Burbank today. It was warm enough, near 70, to take a stroll through the downtown district around noon; however, I had to hold on to my hat at times to keep the wind from blowing it off. Weather watchers are predicting strong winds in various […]

Record heat in the Southland

How hot is it? So hot that the sun loving flowers in my Burbank yard are wilting. Yesterday, the temperature climbed  to 109 degrees in the Media City. Even at 8 p.m. last night is was still 100. More triple digit heat is headed our way today. Other parts of the Southland are suffering in this heat wave, too. On […]

Hot Labor Day holiday weekend!

The heat is on in the Media City. The temperature hit a sweltering 100 this afternoon. I spent some time running errands and getting the car washed early today. I did not linger. As quickly as possible, I was back inside the house with the air conditioning blasting and the fan blowing.  At 5 p.m., Burbankis is still baking […]

Freaky weather in the Southland

The weather turned very freaky today. Those overcast skies this morning did not give way to sunshine, as they had during the past few days. Instead, wacky thunderstorms rolled through parts of Southern California this afternoon, bringing lightning, thunder, rain, and even some hail in places like the coastal community of Venice. Two women were reportedly injured by lightning; […]

Southland slammed by more stormy weather

More cold temperatures, heavy rain, and snow caused havoc in the Southland today. Flooding, snow, and ice made travel on local highways and roads treacherous, forcing some closures. Most surprisingly, the snow level dropped to around 1500 feet. Late today, falling snow shut down Highway 14 into the Antelope Valley. Hundreds of motorists waiting and hoping to get home to Lancaster or […]
