A new SAG-AFTRA contract is a done deal. The rank and file of the major union for actors in the entertainment biz gave a huge thumbs up to a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The multi-year contract received 91.42% of the vote; however, only 19.25% of eligible members returned their ballots. The vote was announced on the SAG-AFTRA website last Wednesday. The deal was reached last month.
The four-year agreement is longer than the past three-year contracts, and that might have ruffled some feathers. As the tech world, led by AI, moves at lightning speed, some members felt the union should not be locked into such a lengthy deal, according to the popular entertainment newsletter The Dailies. The new contract reportedly improves on protections from AI and digital media. The 2026 TV/Theatrical Agreement takes effect on July first and runs through June 30, 2030.
That leaves only the DGA still at the negotiation table with the AMPTP.
