Review: Good eats at Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria in Burbank

To my surprise, we got some pretty good eats at Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria in Burbank. It’s hard to live up to the hype from the 2014 Academy Awards pizza delivery stunt and all that attention from the Ellen Degeneres Show. Nevertheless, we left this pizza joint full and satisfied after a quick-lunch last week. However, it almost did […]

Strong winds down tree in Burbank

The gusting Santa Ana winds claimed a victim in Burbank this morning. Strong winds knocked down a sweet gum tree on Oak Street near Beachwood Drive shortly after 8 a.m. Only minutes before,  students swarmed through the intersection to get to nearby David Starr Jordan Middle School on Mariposa Street. An Oak Street resident says she heard “a crack and then […]

Will it rain on Burbank on Parade?

Will it rain on Burbank on Parade tomorrow morning? The parade organizers are probably pondering that question right now. Today the skies over the Media City have been dark and threatening at times. On occasion, the sun pushed through the clouds, but did not stay around very long. Also, the temperatures are in the cool 60s and it’s a bit […]

Review: The Canyon Grille better than former Clubhouse Grill

The big reopening bash for the Canyon Grille restaurant at the DeBell Golf Club on East Walnut in Burbank is this evening. The Canyon Grille has been open only a few months and is already a vast improvement over its predecessor, the very marginal Clubhouse Grill. The Canyon Grille has the potential to be a notable eatery in the Media City, but […]

What’s happening to this Taco Bell in Burbank?

A lot of chatter in town about the major construction going on at the Taco Bell 2425 West Magnolia Boulevard, between North Buena Vista and North Brighton Streets, in Burbank. Last week the restaurant was open for business, now it’s shut down and work crews are ripping out parts of the structure. I got some answers from the Burbank Building […]

City Buzz: L.A. takes action to stop runaway production. What about Burbank?

Los Angeles has taken an important step in putting the brakes on runaway production. Will Burbank be next? Yesterday, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti signed a city ordinance to waive fees for pilot productions in L.A. In a way, this is a no-brainer, but it has been a long time coming for the City of Angels. Garcetti wrote the legislation […]

Remembering five young car crash victims in Burbank

Many in Burbank are grieving for the five you lives lost in that tragic car crash last Saturday. Burbank PD says the accident involved a single vehicle, a Nissan sedan, which was discovered around 4:13 a.m. September 28, “fully engulfed in flames” on San Fernando Boulevard near the Scott-Road off-ramp of the Golden State Freeway.  A female survivor was […]

Burbank sidewalk controversy revisted

The issue of sidewalks on North Screenland Drive has blown up into a huge controversy since the first vote on the matter by the Burbank City Council back in December of 2010. At that time, by a three-to-two vote, the council supported the majority of the residents who do not want sidewalks on their street. However, Councilman Gary Bric changed […]
