Walmart still planning a mega store in Burbank

The Great Indoors site at the Empire Center in Burbank is still vacant and probably will be that way for a while. That doesn’t mean the world’s largest retailer, Walmart, has lost interest in constructing a proposed 143,000 square foot supercenter at 1301 North Victory Place. Not hardly. On November 5, 2013, the Burbank City Council voted 3-2 not to […]

City Buzz: Burbank Leader and Glendale News-Press controversy

It didn’t take long for readers of the Burbank Leader to react to the ludicrous plan to remove all the paper’s outside news racks from city streets. Glendale News Press readers, who are victims of the same screwball  decision, responded as well.  The uproar prompted a newspaper editorial/weak apology. Here’s the first paragraph. “Some changes went into effect this week […]

What do bananas have to do with Valentine’s Day? They are on a short list of little known aphrodisiacs along with honey, almonds, watermelon and sushi, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Daily Dish. Instead of telling your guy to eat his Wheaties, this article suggests asparagus. Interesting. Actor Ralph Waite, best known for playing the father on TV […]

Web Buzz: Thursday February 13, 2014

Outside news racks for The Burbank Leader have been disappearing from the city streets for some time. I have been critical of that fact in the past. The new website Transparent California is a real eye opener for taxpayers. The first national pharmacy chain announced today it will put the brakes on the sell of cigarettes and tobacco products. CVS has 7,600 stores nationwide — three of them here in Burbank. On October 1, 2014, CVS will no longer sell any tobacco products at any of its retail stores. “Ending the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products at CVS/pharmacy […]

Magic Johnson one of the new owners of the Los Angeles Sparks?

Since early last month, fans of the Los Angeles Sparks have been waiting, petitioning,  and praying for a Southland miracle to rescue the team from limbo. The WNBA team got blindsided when previous owner/former NBC executive, Paula Madison, and her family investment group, abruptly walked away from the team — tossing the ownership reins back to the league. Now NBA […]
