Talk of the Town: Burbank City Attorney on the hot seat

The controversy surrounding the dismissal of the Omar Rodriguez cases has put the Burbank City Attorney, Amy Albano, on the hot seat.  At the city council meeting on August 14,  Albano, was asked to explain how the Omar Rodriguez cases ended. You might remember, Albano took over as city attorney last October. Albano reportedly has nearly twenty years of experience […]

Power and prejudice: Burbank City Council elects new mayor

I watched the reorganization meeting of the Burbank City Council on the city website this morning. I spoke later with someone who had been in the city council chambers during that all important meeting and we both agreed it was unusually quick and somber, but with one major surprise. Vice-Mayor Dave Golonski getting the votes to move up to mayor, […]

Can You Dig It? New paint job at Nickelodeon in Burbank

The new paint job for the Nickelodeon Animation Studio on Olive Avenue is definitely eye catching. The nearby Nickelodeon parking structure/adjacent building got the same treatment. This studio produces kid friendly animated series like “SpongeBob SquarePants” and “The Fairly OddParents.” A short while ago, Burbank City Council member Emily Gabel-Luddy brought up Nick’s new look at a council meeting and […]

Talk of the town: Incident at Burbank Councilman Gordon’s business office

Opt-out smart meter plan approved for Burbank

Despite fierce opposition from a small relentless group of smart meter opponents, the Burbank City Council voted to install a new opt-out fee schedule at its meeting on Tuesday, March 20. During public comments, the opponents lambasted the smart meter technology as unhealthy, dangerous, and a privacy invader. As they have done many times in the past months, the council […]

Talk of the town: Burbank City Council’s controversial vote on Walmart

During the past week, I’ve discovered the Walmart vote by the Burbank City Council last month is still on the minds of a lot of folks. Monday at the Burbank Coordinating Council meeting, keynote speaker, Mayor Jess Talamantes, cheerfully reminded the audience of the 4-to-1 council vote in favor of allowing Walmart to move forward without restrictions or delays in […]

Burbank City Council vote on Walmart — was it fixed?

The Burbank Walmart controversy just keeps growing. Now there are questions about the fairness of that quickie vote taken by the Burbank City Council at its  February 21 meeting, which cleared the way for Walmart to get the permits it will probably  need to renovate the site of The Great Indoors out at the Empire Center.  Despite  protests and hours of emotional speeches by opponents of the […]

City Buzz

New operator for Burbank Recycle Center After heated debate at its meeting Tuesday, December 6, the Burbank City Council voted to assign the operating agreement for the controversial  Burbank Recycle Center to Burrtec Waste Industries. The vote was 4-1 with Councilman, Dr. David Gordon, strongly opposing the arrangement. The operation of the Burbank Recycle Center has been under scrutiny for some time and most recently […]
