Rain showers off and on in Burbank today

A  wet Thursday in the Media City. Scattered showers under cloudy skies are in the forecast through tonight and into tomorrow. I was out in B-town a short while ago, walking in a light rain that was heavy at times. Highs in the upper 60s today and low 50s tonight.

Rain or shine, Burbank ice rink opening ceremony is a go

Downtown Burbank’s first ice skating rink is set to open with a ribbon cutting ceremony, entertainment, and, of course, ice skating tomorrow. Despite storm clouds rolling into the Southland, I’m told,  the festivities will go on “as planned.” Downtown Burbank merchants are behind this special holiday event, which they hope will  give a boost to the local economy by […]

More than a hundred job seekers lined up in Burbank for entertainment jobs

The temperatures in the low 60s, the skies cloudy, and a threat of rain hung in the air, but still they came to a union office in Burbank this morning. Shortly before the interviews began at IATSE Local 33, 1720 West Magnolia Boulevard, the line of job seekers stretched around the block. By 9 a.m., more than 160 applications had […]

Fall returns to Burbank

A major chance in the weather today. Yesterday, the Media City sizzled with a high of 92. ABC7’s meteorologist, Dallas Raines, reported last night that high broke a record of 91 — set back in 1974. Today the temperature is expected to reach only 70 in B-town.. Partly cloudy skies in the forecast, along with a chance of light drizzle […]

City Buzz: L.A. takes action to stop runaway production. What about Burbank?

Los Angeles has taken an important step in putting the brakes on runaway production. Will Burbank be next? Yesterday, Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti, signed a city ordinance to waive fees for pilot productions in L.A. In a way, this is a no brainer, but it has been a long time in coming for the City of Angels. Garcetti wrote the legislation back […]

Getting ready for Halloween

Some folks in Burbank are getting into the Halloween spirit. This house on North Niagara Street in Magnolia Park is host to a slew of spirits, spiders, and skeletal beings. I wouldn’t be surprised if more scary creatures arrived on the scene before fright night on October 31.

Remembering five young car crash victims in Burbank

Many in Burbank are grieving for the five you lives lost in that tragic car crash last Saturday. Burbank PD says the accident involved a single vehicle, a Nissan sedan, which was discovered around 4:13 a.m. September 28, “fully engulfed in flames” on San Fernando Boulevard near the Scott-Road off-ramp of the Golden State Freeway.  A female survivor was […]

A shout out to the Tallyrand !

I dropped by the Tallyrand restaurant at 1700 West Olive Avenue around 4:30 p.m. yesterday for an early dinner. This is usually a slow time for eateries , but to my surprise, the Rand was bustling with activity. The reason: a fundraiser for senior services in Burbank. If a customer requested it, the restaurant management donated 20 per cent […]
