Freaky weather in the Southland

The weather turned very freaky today. Those overcast skies this morning did not give way to sunshine as was the case during the past few days. Instead wacky thunderstorms rolled through parts of Southern California this afternoon bringing lightning, thunder, rain, and even some hail in places like the coastal community of Venice. Two women were reportedly injured by lightning; one victim died […]

More showers for our drought plagued Southland

Showers are sweeping through the Southland today. In Burbank, a steady rain is falling and it’s cold this morning. The temperature is around 50.  Only a few days ago, folks here were out jogging, walking, or driving with their convertible tops down in 80 degree weather! A series of powerful storms headed to the Southland

Get those umbrellas out!  Major rainstorms are bearing down on Southern California. Yet, I doubt that will slow the celebration of love on Saturday; and that’s as it should […]

Another winter storm on the way

Brian Vander Brug/Los Angeles Times Palm trees drooped under the weight of snow at the Antelope Valley Mall during last week’s powerful storm in the Southland. Today is the first official day of winter. Despite what the calendar says we got hammered by a serious winter storm last week. More stormy weather is headed our way with wind, rain, snow, and […]

Southland slammed by more stormy weather

More cold temperatures, heavy rain, and snow caused havoc in the Southland today. Flooding, snow, and ice made travel on local highways and roads treacherous, forcing some closures. Most surprisingly, the snow level dropped to around 1500 feet. Late today, falling snow shut down highway 14 into the Antelope Valley. Hundreds of motorists waiting and hoping to get home to Lancaster or Palmdale had […]

The Southland gets pounded by a deadly storm

Gina Ferrazzi/Los Angeles Times A tragic Southland highway accident scene where a CHP officer was struck and killed by an out of control car yesterday.   The first serious winter storm to swoop down on Southern California turned out to be a real doozie. The most powerful portion came through late Sunday and yesterday, but it’s not over yet. The Arctic […]
