Some weather reports say it’s “breezy” outside. I call it “windy.” In Burbank, the palm trees are being whipped around by the strong winds. Some of the gusts in Media City are over 30 miles per hour. And temperatures have dropped down into the 50s. Brrr! I know back East, they would break out the shorts and tee shirts in this kind of […]

Surprise, we’re getting dumped on by another winter storm. The cloudy skies let loose with a prelude of thunder and drizzle, which soon erupted into a steady rain in Burbank shortly after 10 a.m. This is a cold rainstorm. The high might reach 60 in Media City, but I doubt it. The rain is expected to hang around through tonight. The prediction is for cloudy […]

Some scattered showers in the Southland tonight. In Burbank, sprinkles began around 10 p.m. In a matter of minutes, those sprinkles had turned into a steady rain. Forecasters are predicting this storm will be a lightweight and will blow out of here by mid-morning. However, more rain is headed our way in a day or so. Hopefully, Los Angeles County Officials and residents in the burn […]

Rain is falling in Burbank this morning as a serious storm moves through the Southland today. Already the burn areas in the nearby foothills have received 1-2 inches of rain and that has caused mud and debris to start to flow. Around 243 homes in the risky areas of La Cañada Flintridge and La Crescenta were ordered evacuated and some roads […]

Photo: FLLewis/A Writer’s Groove — Banner on Burbank Boulevard in Burbank The colorful street light banners in Burbank got slammed in yesterday’s Burbank Leader newspaper and on its website by columnist Richard Tafilaw who called them, “lame-o.” I disagree big time for a few reasons. The banners are high above the street and not a real distraction for either motorists or pedestrians. […]

Burbank has not escaped the bumps and bruises of the brutal recession, but yesterday it got some good news from one of the top financial agencies. Standard and Poor’s upgraded Burbank’s credit rating to “AAA,” the highest grade possible. S&P credited the Media City with a strong local economy, steady tax base, low debt, high reserve balance, and attractive location in […]

The umbrella is becoming almost a daily necessity in the Southland these days. There are reports of sprinkles from cloudy skies in various places and cities this morning and later today, that light rain could turn into showers. Even if we don’t get a measurable amount of rain from this storm, a second is on the way for Friday and it’s packing more of […]

New Update: Saturday night 02/20/10 Light rain, here and there, in Burbank tonight. UPDATED: Saturday 02/20/10 Mandatory evacuations were lifted this morning at 8 a.m. for about 200 residents living in the burn region and storm-threatened neighborhoods of La Cañada Flintridge and La Crescenta. Los Angeles County officials warn that only residents with “valid identification” will be allowed into those foothill communities. However […]
