Sunny and cool on President’s Day

A lot of sunshine in Burbank on this President’s Day, although, the temperature is warming up slooowly. The hillside area was awash in sunshine this morning, but my walk was still quite chilly. The temperature didn’t seem to bother some. I saw folks diligently cleaning up storm debris and one ambitious neighbor was out painting her house! Despite some lingering clouds– no rain in the forecast — at least […]

Blake Griffin how did ya get so fly? The Clipper power forward stunned the crowd at Staples Center last night, and gained all kind of props and kudos, when he leaped over a car during an amazing slam dunk. Griffin won the NBA’s 26th Annual Slam Dunk Contest. The NBA all-star pumped up his own celebrity and add some magic to the struggling Los Angeles Clippers with […]

Mega Millions jackpot grows to $64 million and a Southland ticket worth $403, 806

No one hit the jackpot by picking all of the winning numbers in last night’s Mega Millions lottery draw. The lucky digits are 5, 6, 7, 30, 45, and the Mega Ball 42. Two California tickets got all but the Mega Ball number right. Each is worth $105,764. Also, we’ve got a local winner who scored big time on the day […]

Strong winds in Burbank — big storm approaches

Strong winds were batting around trees and scattering debris in Burbank at noon today, but the weather picture is expected to get even more dramatic in the next few hours. The forecast is for serious winds with gusts up to 40 mph —  as much as  70 mph gusts in the mountains. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory warning that the conditions can […]

Mega Millions jackpot leaps to $52 million

The money is stacking up once again in the Mega Millions lottery game. No one picked all of last Tuesday’s winning numbers: 17, 18, 24, 35, 39, and the Mega Ball 18. That pumped the jackpot up to $52 million. One ticket, bought in California, got all but one of those lucky numbers right. That ticket was missing the correct Mega […]

Storm preps: More rain coming — City of Burbank offers free sandbags

The rain stopped and the sun came out around noon in Burbank today. The fair weather did not last long. A heavy rain cell unloaded on the hillside area just before 1 p.m.  In addition to the on-again off-again rain, some strong winds are whipping through B-town. This is only a prelude. A really big storm is expected to roll into the Southland by […]

Raindrops falling in Burbank and much of the Southland

Raindrops falling in Burbank tonight. We got a fine mist this morning — now it’s light rain with heavier showers reportedly headed our way over the next few days. There’s rain in the forecast through next Tuesday. Great for the lawn and the flower garden, not so good for commuters out on the slick roads and highways. Also, cool temperatures tomorrow — a […]

City Buzz

Next Tuesday is Election Day in Burbank,  but there will be no polling places. City Hall staffers sent out a press release yesterday about the Primary Nominating Election. It was a reminder that if you want your vote to count in this election you have to mail it in or drop off your ballot at City Hall or other designated places. Also, the […]

Valentine’s Day: Time to show garden rose bushes some love

“Think about me on Valentine’s Day. That’s when you need to fertilize,” recommended gardening expert, Emilio Telles, during the rose care class at Armstrong Garden Center in Glendale, on Saturday, January 15, 2011.   Telles used another holiday, Halloween, as a stopping point for fertilizing rose bushes. Telles’ January class focused mostly on the pruning of rose bushes. I took Armstrong’s “Rose care for beginners,” […]
